Lagos State Government Moves Against Exam Malpractice
The Lagos State Government, in a bid to prevent sharp practices in public and private secondary schools in the on-going West African Senior School Certificate Examination, sent out various teams to do unscheduled visits to senior secondary schools across the state to ensure malpractice is reduced to the barest minimum.
WAEC had earlier sanctioned 30 secondary schools in Lagos State over alleged involvement in examination malpractice during the May/June 2015 Senior School Certificate Examination.
The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education, Mrs. Olabisi Ariyo, who led a team to Living Stone College, Ogba, Lagos, during English exam noted that as a seasoned teacher and invigilator, she knows it is easy and common place to cheat during objective sessions. She supervised the examination throughout the duration of the paper. Speaking after the exercise, Ariyo urged all school proprietors to maintain the good standard of education in the state by grooming their students properly before the examination rather than resorting to helping them cheat.
“The delivery of high quality education that will ingrain in the leaders of tomorrow, the virtues of hard-work, self -confidence and truthfulness, is the desire of the Lagos State Government. This is what we should do in the interest of the students and the nation at large.” She promised that the State Government will deploy resources at its disposal to prevent a recurrence of last year’s ugly incident.
The team comprised of the Permanent Secretary, Teachers’ Establishment and Pensions Office, Mrs. Sewanu Amosu, Senior Special Assistant to His Excellency on Education, Mrs. Abiola Ayeni and the Director, Public Affairs, Mr. Adesegun Ogundeji.
